Sinking Cities

DESIGN SHIFTS, A poetic journey through post-normal times
1

The delta plains cannot bear our hefty weight.

Our concrete accretions that hold our progress,

slowly sink into the ancient mud - stagnate.

The monsoon falls madly, showering distress.

A watery hell of floods and tides conflate...

to erode the city’s purpose and finesse,

a shitty soup of ravaged civility...

These settlements prove our fallibility.

Sinking Cities (09/06/2020) in Design Shifts, a poetic journey through post-normal times.

In response to the World Resources Report (2020) that highlighted the plight of tens of millions of people living in sinking cities, due to the convergence of urbanisation on coastal alluvial plains, land subsidence and climate change impacts (floods and sea-level rise).
